How Much Does a Kitchen Remodel Cost?

Before you start swinging hammers, you need to know where your money goes. Kitchen remodels usually fall into three main groups:

Project Type Average Cost What You Get
Simple Update $18,000 – $32,000 Fresh paint, new stone countertops, a tile backsplash, updated cabinet doors, and new sinks or faucets.
Full Remodel $35,000 – $65,000 Brand-new cabinets, new floors, updated appliances, new wiring, and small changes to the room layout.
Custom Overhaul $70,000 – $120,000+ Removing load-bearing walls, adding custom cabinets, moving plumbing lines, and installing heated floors.

Top Things That Change Your Price

1

Removing Walls

Opening up your floor plan requires heavy support beams to keep your house safe, level, and structurally sound.

2

Cabinet Choices

Custom wood cabinets cost more than pre-made cabinets, but they fit your exact space precisely and last much longer.

3

Moving Pipes and Wires

Moving your sink, stove, or fridge to a new wall adds more licensed trade work hours for plumbing and electrical.

Local Building Rules and Safety Standards

Older homes and harsh cold winters mean your kitchen needs to be built tough. Here is how we protect your home:

Safe Electric Outlets

Your kitchen needs high-powered circuits and special safety outlets near sinks to stop electrical shocks.

Stove Venting

Strong stove fans push smoke and grease outside. We add air valves so your home keeps fresh air flowing smoothly.

Leveling Older Walls

Older houses often have uneven floors and walls. We straighten the wall framing so your cabinets sit flush and your counters do not crack.

Warm, Draft-Free Walls

When we open up your walls, we add modern insulation. This stops cold winter drafts and keeps your pipes from freezing.

How to Choose the Right Contractor

Protect your home and your budget by asking any contractor for these four key items before signing a contract:

✓
Proof of Active Local Insurance Ensure they carry valid general liability insurance and full workers’ compensation coverage.
✓
Official Municipal Building Permits Verify your contractor pulls all necessary city/town permits directly under their legal business name.
✓
Detailed Written Contract Get an itemized contract that clearly details fixed pricing, specific materials, and an expected work schedule.
✓
Written Workmanship Warranty Partner with a builder who provides a clear, written craftsmanship warranty to protect your investment after completion.

Kitchen Remodeling FAQs

Most full kitchen remodels take about 4 to 8 weeks once we start work in your home. We give you a clear schedule before we begin so you always know what week to expect us.

Since your kitchen will be out of commission, we always suggest setting up a temporary “mini kitchen” in another room, like your dining room or basement. Just bring in a microwave, a mini-fridge, a coffee maker, and paper plates to make it through while we build your dream space.

Actually, it is better to wait! We need to know the exact sizes (specifications) of your new fridge, stove, and dishwasher before we build your custom cabinets so everything fits together without any gaps.
